Three Generations
Vulcan Steel was started as, and still remains a family venture that has been fueled by a passion for the steel industry. In 1963, our founder, Herman Hopper named our company after the symbol of his hometown, Birmingham, Alabama. “Vulcan” represents the Roman god of metallurgy.
Vulcan Steel Company today is run by Herman’s son, the president, Davis H. Hopper along with his sons, Davis N. Hopper and Ben Hopper. They represent 2 of the 4 generations in the structural steel business, as Herman’s father was also involved in the steel industry.
